MANILA, Philippines—The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) coalition started its campaign with a mass at the Cebu Cathedral on Tuesday followed by a motorcade, a report by Chona Yu of Radyo INQUIRER 990 AM said.
UNA president and founder Vice President Jejomar Binay and Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile heard Ricardo Cardinal Vidal’s mass with the coalition’s exclusive senatorial candidates: the Vice President’s daughter Nancy Binay, San Juan Representative Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito Estrada (former President Joseph Estrada’s son), Cagayan Representative Juan Ponce “Jack” Enrile Jr., Zambales Representative Milagros “Mitos” Magsaysay, Senator Gregorio Honasan II, former senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Ernesto Maceda, and former Tarlac Governor Margarita “Tingting” Cojuangco.
Suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was also spotted at the cathedral but only arrived after the homily, the radio report said.
The coalition broke up into two teams for a motorcade around the vote-rich province, with one group heading to Dalisay and another going south.
Former President Estrada, although unable to join the rest of the coalition during mass, was able to catch up during the motorcade, his son JV said.
UNA’s motorcade is expected to end at 5 p.m. with the two teams converging at the Plaza Independencia.
The UNA “Three Kings” are expected to endorse their national bets during the proclamation rally.
