Three men wounded in weekend shootings

Three men were wounded in separate shooting incidents in Cebu over the weekend.

In San Fernando town in southern Cebu, two-motorcycle riding assailants shot and wounded a 46-year-old man and his 16-year-old son. The victims were also riding a motorcycle.

Ben Aranas and his son Jonnel told police that they were riding a motorcycle driven by Ben at past 2 a.m. on Sunday when two men wearing bonnets tailed them and opened fire on them.

The assailants  then sped off toward Naga town.

Although wounded, Ben still managed to bring themselves to the Pinamungahan District Hospital. They were then transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

Police were still investigating the incident.

Tanod shot

At past noon last Sunday, in Cebu City, a man shot and wounded a barangay San Roque tanod along Palma Street.

Serafin Britania, 42, suffered a gunshot wound in the stomach after a certain Ibo Lastimosa shot him with a .45 caliber pistol.

Investigation showed that Britania who worked in a shipping company in the area was riding his bicycle when he saw Lastimosa.

He stopped and let Lastimosa ride with him. But as he was pedaling along Palma Street, Britania claimed that Lastimosa suddenly pulled out a gun and shot him.

Britania said that Lastimosa pulled the trigger for another shot but the gun jammed. This gave Britania an opportunity to escape. He then reported the incident to police.

Police were still looking for Lastimosa.

Britania said that Lastimosa could have kept a grudge against after he suspected Britania of reporting to police that he kept an unlicensed gun. Lastimosa was arrested and was charged with illegal gun possession.

Lacion attack

In barangay Pulpogan Consolacion town a few hours later, a 21-year-old man was shot by three armed men as he was driving his Multicab in the area.

Jerson Resma, despite being shot in both his legs, managed to continue driving his multicab to escape his assailants.

Resma claimed that he recognized one of the assailants, whom he identified as a certain George Sumusot of barangay Pulpogan.

Police said that the motive of the attack was a personal grudge.

Police recovered five emty shells of 9mm pistol, 8 empty shells of. .45 caliber pistol and 1 empty shell of .40 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
