1 killed, 8 hurt in road accidents

A MAN was killed while eight others were injured in two separate road accidents in Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu Cities in a span of eight hours on Sunday and Monday.

At past 6 p.m. on Sunday, a bus bumped the back of a passenger jeepney along the UN Avenue in barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

The accident caused the jeepney careened to the sidewalk and rammed a wall. The PUJ driver John Munez and his seven passengers were slightly injured and were rushed to  the Mandaue City hospital.

The driver of the Catalina Rental bus,  Mario Baylosis, 45, of San Remegio town, was detained at the Opao police precinct pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting to multiple injuries charge.

Eight hours later, two men on a motorcycle crashed on the road railings in a road in sitio Tac-an, barangay Ibo, killing the backrider, and seriously injuring the driver.

Michael Igot, 26, died after suffering severe head injuries because of the crash. Igot wasn’t wearing a helmet when the motorcycle crashed.

Rannie Aying 28, of barangay Bangkal, the motorcycle driver survived the crash and was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu District hospital for treatment.

He was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

Investigation showed that the two men came from barangay Poblacion and were heading home to barangay Bangkal when they met the accident. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan and Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos.
