THE ATHLETES for Christ in Excellent Service (ACES) had an impressive weekend as they rattled off two wins against separate opponents in the 19-under division of the ongoing Cebu Elite Basketball League last Saturday and Sunday at the University of San Carlos North campus gym along Mango Avenue.
The Aces flourished under the tutelage of PBA legend and former University of the Visayas assistant coach, Al Solis, as they first got past the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 88-82, before defeating the University of San Carlos team handled by coach, Roland Remedio, 89-72.
In other games in the same division, the other USC squad, under coach Tata Merced, got into the winning column with a 79-71 win over the Cebu Eastern College. They weren’t so lucky the next day as they got bested by the University of the Visayas, 61-67.
CEC bounced back with a 68-56 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation.
In the 16-under class, USC’s North and South campuses emerged victorious with USC North 1 spanking SHS-AdC 2, 55-34, while USC South demolished Thumbs Up 2, 74-49. SHS-AdC 1 though, made up for their other team’s loss with a 43-40 squeaker over CEC. Thumbs Up 2 also made amends by defeating Bradford in merciless fashion, 79-22.
The 13-under division saw USC South assert itself over their sister squad USC North, 58-14 while UV was too much to handle for St. Paul, 67-20.
