Urbiztondo snags weekly title
JOSH URBITZTONDO continued to shine for Barako Bull in the face of unrelenting injuries to several of their key players.
For that, he received the first Player of the Week citation in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Urbitztondo was the lynchpin in the Energy Colas’ 2-0 (win-loss) start with resounding wins over the defending champion and his former team San Mig Coffee and GlobalPort. He averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in those games, becoming the runaway choice for the award.
Undrafted out of class 2009, the man nicknamed “Fireball” has since went on to have a successful career with stints in Air21 and B-Meg. He underlined his reliability as he had 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists in their 79-75 win over the Mixers during opening day.
He upped the ante on their next game, wherein he registered 24 points, five boards and four dimes last Sunday that helped the Energy Colas carve a 98-88 overtime win over GlobalPort that gave them the solo lead despite the continued absence of the injured Enrico Villanueva, Celino Cruz, Roger Yap, Sean Anthony, JC Intal and Emman Monfort. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
