Education Secretary Armin A. Luistro  and Union Bank chair and chief executive officer Justo Ortiz have signed an agreement to produce learning tools for the teaching of literacy, English proficiency and values education in public schools.

The project, Union Bank Learning System, integrates the teaching of the three subjects into Grade 2 English.

Under the agreement, the Department of Education (DepEd) will develop the Learner’s Material (LM) and Teacher’s Guide (TG) based on the K to 12 basic education curriculum standards and competencies.

Union Bank grants all copyright materials to the DepEd at no cost.

Luistro said the learning system would enable the DepEd to integrate, adopt and use the LM and TG in the context of K to 12.

He said every pupil could study, answer and write on, even bring home as their own, the LM.

The TG is reusable, on a 1-1 ratio, for Grade 2 English teachers nationwide. Printing of the TG shall be done by the DepEd.

Also at the signing ceremonies were Union Bank executives Maria Gonzalez Goolsby, executive director, Corporate Philanthropy and Social Responsibility, and Ilene Ruivivar,   manager, Corporate Philanthropy and Social Responsibility; and Education  Undersecretaries Yolanda Quijano (programs and projects) and Alberto Muyot (legal).
