Providing gun-makers a place where they can legally work will help eradicate the illegal manufacturing of firearms in Danao City, northern Cebu.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Alan Purisima sees this as the ultimate solution to the rampant  ’paltik trade’ in Danao.

“We should employ them in legal factories who had the best productions and projected customers”, Purisima said.

Purisima said he believes gun-makers in Danao are capable of making quality guns if placed in a legitimate gun factory.

Purisima yesterday visited the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) which celebrated the 22nd founding anniversary of the PNP.

During the activity, 1,409 assorted firearms which were seized since last year were presented to Purisima.

“Imagine if each gun is used to kill a person,” Purisima said.

Acting Cebu governor Agnes Magpale, who is from Danao,  also graced the affair.

Purisima said there are several skilled gun-makers in Danao but they work clandestinely.

On plans to legalize the manufacturing of firearms in Danao, Purisima said: “Malabo ma-realize yon (That’s far-fetched).”

If legalized, another problem for gun-makers is to look for buyers.

“Sino naman ang bibili sa finished products nila? Baka yong mga illegal din (Who will buy their finished products? It could just be the lawless elements).”

Purisima said he ordered the PRO-7  to further intensify the campaign against illegal gun manufacturers in Danao.
