DAGUPAN CITY, Philippines—Classes in the pre-school and elementary levels in public and private schools in Pangasinan and Baguio City were suspended on Wednesday due to heavy rains.
In a text message to Pangasinan radio stations on Wednesday morning, Governor Amado Espino Jr. said he ordered the suspension due to possible flooding in most towns.
Edilberto Abalos, education program supervisor in Dagupan, said classes in the city’s secondary schools were not suspended but the Department of Education was leaving it to school officials to decide whether to continue holding classes amid the heavy rains.
Classes at the Dagupan City National High School were suspended on Wednesday morning after the school grounds were swamped by floodwater. Afternoon sessions in some private high schools in the city were also suspended on Wednesday.
In Baguio City, Mayor Mauricio Domogan suspended classes in pre-school and elementary due to the heavy rains in the summer capital from Tuesday night to early morning Wednesday.
