REHABILITATION work on both the Mandaue-Mactan and Marcelo B. Fernan Bridges were scheduled on Feb. 25 by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
But the date for the rehabilitation work on the two bridges will still be subject to approval of the Mactan-Cebu Bridge Management Board (MCBMB) chaired by acting Cebu Gov. Agnes Magpale.
Engr. Renault Ricardo, asst. DPWH district engineer, said they will send letters to various stakeholders and local government units (LGUs) to inform them of the rehabilitation work.
Ricardo said the Mandaue-Mactan Bridge rehabilitation cost P20 million while the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge cost P27 million. Both projects were awarded to PLD Construction.
He said they will coordinate with the Traffic Enforcement Agency in Mandaue (TEAM) headed by Edwin Ermac and Lapu-Lapu City traffic chief Frank Brazil for re-routing schemes to be followed by motorists.
The asphalt of the 862 meters long Mandaue-Mactan Bridge will be scraped and its four joints will be repaired. Two of the 26 rubber joints of the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge also need to be repaired. The rehabilitation work on both bridges is scheduled to 90 calendar days.
Another 10 projects of asphalting and concreting will be implemented by the DPWH simutaneously starting next week in Mandaue City.
The overlaying of asphalt and concreting will be done at night to avoid traffic congestion.Reporter Jucell Marie Cuyos
