Barangay captain’s brod gunned down

THE brother of a barangay captain and a junkshop owner were killed in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City and Liloan town, northern Cebu.

Antonio Dasmariñas, 50, was driving a tricycle when he was shot in the head by a still-unidentified assailant in sitio Laray, barangay Inyawan, Cebu City around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

SPO1 Ruth Violongo of the homicide section of the Cebu City police said they are still investigating if the assailant was on board the victim’s motorcycle or was on another vehicle.

Personal grudges could be the motive of the attack, police said.

The victim’s brother, Pardo barangay captain Fermin Dasmariñas, said his younger brother argued with another tricycle driver, Darwin Anga, 46, over a passenger Tuesday morning.

Fermin said several hours after the argument, a friend of Anga, Jovan Tresbetero tried to look for the victim but did not find him.

Police invited Anga and Tresbetero for questioning. The two men denied involvement in the attack, police said.

The case is still under investigation, police said.

In barangay Catarman, Liloan, a 50-year-old man was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while he and his wife were in a resort last Wednesday afternoon.

Lorenzo Baticolon, a resident of barangay Umapad, Mandaue City, suffered gunshot wounds in different parts of the body.

He was declared dead when he was brought to a health center in barangay Poblacion, Lilo-an.

Police said Baticolon and his wife Estrelleta were singing in a videoke stall at Ilig Beach Resort in sitio Tiwasan when a man armed with .45 caliber pistol arrived and started shooting.

A bloodied Lorenzo fell to the ground while his wife dropped to ground to take cover.

Police said the assailant took the victim’s wallet containing P7,000 cash before fleeing on a motorcycle driven by another man.

The wife sought help from residents area who helped bring the victim to the health center

Police recovered six empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene.
