The first 24-hour automated teller machines (ATM) were introduced in the Philippines in the 1980s.
The country’s ATM network grew by 175 percent between 2001 and 2011—from less than 4,000 ATMs in 2001 to over 10,000 ATMs in 2011, according to data from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
As of June 2012, there were more than 11,000 ATMs nationwide.
As of 2010, there were around 30 million ATM cardholders in the Philippines.
