MCMILL claimed the last semifinal seat of the Sambag 2 Basketball Athletic Association (S2BAA)-2011 Belarmino 1st Founder’s Cup basketball tournament after nipping Ceres Liner, 86-84 last Sunday at the sitio Kawayan covered court in Sambag 2, Cebu City.
Ceres Liner led in the first three periods including a 65-54 advantage at the end of the third quarter. But McMill waxed hot in the fourth and outscored Ceres Liner, 32-19 behind Danry Baclay, Jun Verano and Rocky Bacalso to snatch the come-from-behind win.
Baclay and Verano powered McMill with a game-high 23 and 20 points, respectivey while Bacalso added 16 markers. Renato Mojado and Art Estayan paced Ceres Liner with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
McMill joins Aying Sportswear, YMTEC and Masong Construction in the semifinal round slated next Sunday.
Earlier, powerhouse Aying Sportswear trounced YMTEC, 89-82 to keep its hold of the top position.
YMTEC jumped off to a 21-15 first quarter lead before Aying responded with a 23-15 run to rule the half, 38-36.
Both camps fought on even terms in the 3rd and 4th periods before Aying launched its final wave of attack with a 33-23 rally to cruise to the seven-point win.
Bryan Masucol and Oliver Sonsona topped Aying Sportswear with 20 and 19 points, respectively while Robert Ortega and Dodong Elizalde paced YMTEC with 14 and 13 markers.
