Million Volunteers Run fires off in 3 different venues this Sunday

PHILIPPINE Red Cross (PRC)-Lapu-lapu Cordova Chapter is encouraging runners to join their edition of the Million Volunteers Run this Sunday.

The Million Volunteers Run is a nationwide running event of PRC held simultaneously in Manila and other key cities around the country. It is aiming to gather a million runners in total to make it to the books of the Guinness World Records.

In Cebu, there will be three different venues for the fun run. One will be at the Olanggo Island’s town hall, another will be at Lapu-Lapu City’s Hoopsdome and at the other at the Cordova municipal hall. Proceeds of the race will help victims of typhoon Pablo, which hit the Visayas and Mindanao region last December. The running event’s proceeds will also help fund the chapter’s humanitarian services to the community. ”

Vic Jay Gonzal, PRC Lapu-lapu/Cordova chapter’s administrator, is inviting runners to help the Cordova race reach its target number of runners.

“We are able to gather only around a hundred runners, which is less than we expected,” said Gonzal. “We are inviting companies, schools and other private organizations to join us because your registration fee will truly help those who are in need.”

The fun run is a non-competitive race. Registration fee is pegged at P50 for students and P150 for regular runners. No singlet and cash prizes will be given but finishers will get medals after the run.

Those who want to register can visit the PRC Lapu-Lapu City/Cordova chapter office at the R. dela Cerna Street, Poblacion, Lapu-Lapu City beside the city fire department. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
