Gumban defends against Tabamo

SUPERFLYWEIGHT prospect Melvin Gumban (12W-0L, 6 KOs) will stake his unbeaten record against Marjhun Tabamo (8W-1L-1D, 2 KOs) in the 10-round main event of a seven bout professional boxing card at the Island City Mall Carpark in Tagbilaran City on Feb. 23.

The 22-year-old Gumban hails from Escalante City, Negros Occidental. Last Dec. 16, he knocked out tough veteran Louie Bantigue in a single round in front of his hometown fans at the Escalante City Coliseum.

Tabamo’s only career loss was at the hands of Marco Demecillo of the RWS Gym. Tabamo challenged Demecillo for the Philippine superflyweight championship but was stopped in four rounds last Sept. 25, 2012 in Iligan City.

Also set to fight on the undercards are Roma Rate vs. Macrea Gandiongco (10 rounds), Arjan Canillas vs. Godwin Tubigon (8 rds), Pedro Balaba vs. Royroy Sumugat (8 rds), Lito Dante vs. Michael Enriquez (6 rds), Brian Lobitania vs. Romano Gelig (4 rds) and Richard Barrios vs. Manuel Dosol (4 rds).
