RCAF retains unbeaten record in UBCA hoop

RCAF kept its immaculate record in the 2nd Season Upper Bayanihan Catholic Association (UBCA) Camp-2013 after nipping the San Carlos Heights, 101-100, in overtime last Sunday for its 4th straight win at the barangay Quiot Sports Complex.

RCAF jumped to a, 23-19 run in the opening period but SCH responded with a, 23-13 rally in the second to erect a six-point lead, 42-36, at the half and earned a, 64-60, advantage heading to the final quarter.

The fourth quarter ended with an 86-all tie when RCAF’s Rommel Garcia nailed an undergoal stab with seven seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

The extension also featured several lead changes and deadlocks, the last at 100-all with four seconds remaining but RCAF’s Kuya Calvo  broke the tie when he sank one of his two freethrows for the one-point victory.

FEATURED STORIES

Danrey Baclay and Rommel Garcia led RCAF with a game-high 30 and 20, respectively, while Barack Ecojedo and Rowell Juban paced SCH with 20 and 18 points.

Earlier, ICC Pharmacy trounced defending champion Grace Bostolits, 100-94, for its 3rd win in four games (3-1), while the latter fell to 1-2.

Six-foot-2 center Louie Villarin and Danny Dela Peña led the Pharmacians with 19 and 18 points, respectively, while Roger Quitoy and Michael Malalay paced Grace Bostolits with 24 and 18 markers.

In the other game, Mariquit Aqua Venture edged UBCA Magic, 101-100, for its 3rd win in five games.

Nonie Sabandeja and Robert Abasolo led Aqua Venture with 20 and 19, respectively while Niño Dela Cruz and Jessie Rudinas paced UBCA Magic with 22 and 21 points.
