‘High-risk’ 6-year-old leukemia patient needs money for chemo

JOAQUIN

Doctors at Philippine Children’s Hospital have described the condition of 6-year-old leukemia patient Pauline Joaquin as “high-risk.”

According to her mother Nancy Joaquin, this was SOP (standard operating procedure) whenever someone suffering from the ailment fails to complete the chemotherapy cycle prescribed by doctors.

To make up for the treatments she missed, Pauline has been advised by her doctors to undergo radiotherapy every day for one month, Nancy added.

“This is something we cannot afford on our own which is why we want to ask for help from your readers. In the first place, my daughter failed to complete her chemotherapy sessions because we did not have enough money,” Nancy said.

Her husband, a factory worker at an auto parts shop in Laguna province, is the only breadwinner in the family.

According to Nancy, her daughter has so far completed only the second of 12 chemotherapy sessions. Each cycle costs P56,000 each.

Of the many medicines Pauline is taking, the most expensive is the IT tytarabine at P900 per tablet.

Nancy Joaquin can be reached at 0908-9582288. Donations can be deposited in her  RCBC bank account (account number 1306097179).
