LUCENA CITY, Philippines—Suspected New People’s Army rebels burned down heavy equipment owned by a quarry company in Rodriguez, Rizal, on Sunday afternoon, the regional spokesman of the military’s Southern Luzon Command, said on Monday.
Colonel Generoso Bolina said some 20 armed communist guerillas wearing Army fatigue uniforms swooped down on Sitio Tabak in Barangay (village) San Rafael and set on fire an undetermined number of equipment owned by Pacific Quarry.
Bolina said the torching of the equipment was caused by the refusal of the company to pay the so-called revolutionary taxes of the NPAs.
After the burning, the rebels withdrew towards the mountainous area, Bolina said.
