Erco remained at the top of the leaderboard in the 38-Above category after sneaking past Queen City United (QCU), 2-1, in yesterday’s resumption of the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Danilo Juezan scored both goals in the 8th and 30th minutes, which allowed ERCO to extend its points to nine with a 3-1 (win-loss) record so far.
QCU’s lone goal was scored by Michael Velasquez in the 57th minute.
QCU will be playing minus Greg Balsicas in their next game after he was red carded for picking up his second yellow card in the tournament.
In the Men’s Open, Crazy Horse was able to hold on to its top 1 position in bracket B after surviving the challenge of Don Bosco United (DBU) FC-B, 3-0.
The win allowed Crazy Horse to post a three-point lead over DBU FC-B, which continues to stay at the second spot with seven points.
In bracket C, FC Inter Cebu (FCIC) trimmed its gap from bracket leader Cebu Queen City United (CQCU) FC after edging Toledo Harumi, 3-2.
The other match in the bracket saw DBU FC-A scoring its first win in the tournament after blanking Avenger FC, 2-0. The win also allowed DBU FC-A to climb up the ladder to the third spot.
In bracket D, Hiroshi FC gave Samba FC its first loss at 3-1.
Samba FC, however, holds the top spot because it leads Hiroshi by virtue of its goal difference of eight points. Hiroshi FC only has four. Both teams tote the same six points.
