Need a hug on Valentine’s Day?
The National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) is inviting everyone to a hug fest dubbed as the first “Yakapalooza” in Rizal Park in Manila on Feb. 14.
The committee has declared 9 p.m. as the “love hour” where everyone can exchange hugs, an event that will be preceded by a free concert.
“It’s a time to express your love, not just to your significant other, but also to family members, barkada and even officemates,” NPDC spokesperson Kenneth Montegrande said. “While you can’t kiss your friends, you can freely embrace them to give comfort or show appreciation.”
The benefits of a 20-second passionate hug are increased memory level, lower stress levels and normalized blood pressure, Montegrande said, citing a study commissioned by the University of Vienna.
“Symbolically, we also want the public to embrace Luneta Park and its rich history,” he added.
“Yakapalooza at the Park” will start at 6 p.m. near the Musical Dancing Fountain with a concert featuring Bea Binene, Barbie Forteza, Julie Anne San Jose, Joshua Dionisio, Derick Monasterio, Enzo Pineda, DJ Joker and members of Jeepney Music led by Allan Pineda.
Jazz group Jive Disciples, DCOY, Ikee and Jash Bagabaldo will also perform at the event which will be hosted by radio jocks Rico Panyero and Lala Banderas of 101.1 Yes FM.
Every performance will be followed by a game with prizes to be given by sponsors, Montegrande said.
The event was staged by Blitz Communications Philippines in cooperation with Femsa Philippines, PLDT and the Department of Public Works and Highways.
