THE HABITAT for Humanity Foundation and Megaworld Properties joined hands in staging a fun run dubbed I Run for my Visayan Dream yesterday at the Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City.

Around 800 young runners from different universities and schools in Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City joined the race that was held in line with Megaworld’s social responsibility project with the Habitat For Humanity to build houses for less fortunate Filipinos in the country.

Megaworld Cebu Properties president Noli Hernandez said staging a running event was one of the best ways to launch its outreach program since it involved various youth groups, schools and universities in Cebu.

Hernandez said Megaworld donated P10 million to Habitat For Humanity for its housing projects and their youth council program in the Visayas.

“We feel so happy that so many young people joined our running event because it’s really for them and we really need the participation of the youth to strengthen our campaign together with Habitat For Humanity,” added Hernandez.

Charlie Aico, the CEO of Habitat For Humanity,  said the P10 million will go a long way in helping repair and build houses for the poor. The funds will also give them chance to support their projects with their other partner foundations.

The race was held within 16-hectare township called Mactan Newtown of Megaworld Properties. It offered a 3-kilometer and 5k categories. The list of winners weren’t made available as of press time. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
