The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) asked for a five-day extension to finish its rehabilitation of the Maguikay flyover in Mandaue City.
Engr. Roy dela Cruz of the DPWH-7 said he anticipated that rains may slow down their progress which was reported at 70 percent completion.
He said they asked Acting Gov. Agnes Magpale, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and the Traffic Enforcement Agency in Mandaue (TEAM) to allow them to extend their work until Feb. 8.
“In case it doesn’t rain, we can finish our work on Sunday,” dela Cruz said.
The P9 million rehabilitation project is part of several DPWH rehabilitation of projects extending to North Hagnaya Wharf Road in San Remigio town, north Cebu, pegged at P35 million.
Despite the rains, dela Cruz said work crews were still at work on the flyover.
“We just look for ways to repair the structure in order to meet the deadline,” he said, adding that they cleared the sides of the flyover of asphalt.
The 10 joints of the flyover were repaired.
One of the joints was fixed using a special grout material called tre-ulox. Dela Cruz said the road asphalting will take only one or two nights. Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
