Group announces Autism Week

08:11 AM February 01, 2013

THE Autism Society of the Philippines (ASP), in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), has been calling on the public to focus on children with autism (CWA) in celebration of Autism Consciousness Week, which started last Jan. 26 and will run until today.

The DSWD is focusing its review of current programs and plans for PWD (persons with disability) cases including CWA, especially those with less access to education, health, employment and other opportunities.

The government is directed to develop concrete actions to correct and improve the CWA’s status as well as ensure their full protection.

The theme for this 13th weeklong celebration is “Autismo Alamin, Pagtanggap at Pag-unawa Palaganapin.”

The DSWD is calling on concerned government agencies to come up with activities to commemorate the celebration, such as exhibits, lectures on autism, educational trip, free therapy visit, forum on disability, contest, tree planting and talent show, among others.
