Even if they now hold the reins at the Capitol, officials and allies of the Liberal Party Cebu (LP-Cebu) won’t use the province’s resources to stage their campaign sorties, its chairman said yesterday.
“We are different from the Garcias,” LP-Cebu chairperson Hilario Davide III said in reference to suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and her family who occupy seats in Congress and local positions in Cebu.
Davide said even with the presence of acting Cebu Gov. Agnes Magpale and LP affiliated Provincial Board (PB) members, they won’t exploit the Capitol’s resources for their sorties.
As proof Davide said he didn’t accompany Magpale during the distribution of Philhealth cards in northern towns early this week.
“I believe it isn’t good to join her. We are the exact opposite of the Garcias,” he said.
Garcia visited Barili town yesterday, a day after her Oslob visit and she again took the opportunity to denounce Magpale for ordering police and City Administrator Office personnel to padlock her office.
The suspended governor earlier confirmed that she will join the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) kick-off rally. Davide said this doesn’t bother him.
“The UNA leaders will be here to support Gwen Garcia. That’s to be expected,” he said in a radio interview.
Davide said UNA leaders like Vice President Jejomar Binay and former president Joseph Estrada don’t have the support of Cebuanos.
This was evident in the 2010 elections when Binay lost to then vice presidential candidate Mar Roxas, he said.
Davide said the LP senatorial candidates will also come to Cebu soon to campaign and show support for their local allies.
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the UNA will be having one proclamation rally in Cebu City on Feb. 12.
Rama said UNA earlier planned to hold proclamation rallies in Toledo City and Cebu City.
But Rama told reporters that UNA leaders in Manila decided last Wednesday to just have one proclamation rally in Cebu and to have it in Cebu City this month. Correspondent Edison delos Angeles
