Melindo might fight in Viloria-Estrada card
ONGOING talks between Top Rank Promotions and ALA Promotions might allow Milan ‘El Metodico’ Melindo to fight in Macau on April 6 on the undercard of the WBO/WBA flyweight title fight between champion Brian ‘The Hawaiian Punch’ Viloria and challenger Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico.
The undefeated Melindo (28W-0L, 11 KOs), who fights out of the ALA gym, is the WBO International flyweight champion and the mandatory challenger to Viloria’s WBO crown. Melindo could very well fight the winner of Viloria-Estrada or fight for the vacant WBO world title if Viloria decides to vacate the crown.
Viloria was quoted last year as saying that he does not want to face another Filipino inside the ring.
Viloria (32W-3L, 19 KOs) unified the WBO and WBA titles last November after stopping Mexican Hernan Marquez in ten rounds.
In that same fight card held in Los Angeles, Estrada (22W-2L, 18 KOs) lost to WBA light flyweight champion Roman Gonzales of Nicaragua by unanimous decision.
Melindo’s last fight was a majority decision win against Jean Piero Perez last September at the Waterfront Hotel. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
