Ring officials of Nietes-Fuentes title fight bared

THE ring officials for the WBO light flyweight title bout between defending champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes of the ALA Gym and challenger Moises Fuentes of Mexico have been appointed by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

The assigned referee for this match is Jack Reiss of California while the three judges responsible for scoring are Adalaide Byrd of Las Vegas, Patrick Russell of California and Atty. Danrex Tapdasan of Makati City. The fight supervisor is WBO Asia-Pacific chief Leon Panoncillo.

This world title bout will headline Pinoy Pride 18 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel on March 2, 2013.

Nietes (31W-1L-3D, 17 KOs) is already in the thick of preparations and has sparred with bantamweights and superbantamweights at the ALA Gym.

Last Thursday afternoon, Nietes looked very sharp against sparring partners Ralph Lulu, Pedro Balaba and Bryan Lobitania. Nietes’ last fight in November was a non-title affair in Dumaguete City against Thai Danai Meendaeng whom he stopped in five rounds.

Fuentes (16W-1L, 8 KOs) is the WBO minimumweight champion. He won his title by beating countryman Raul Garcia by split decision last August 2011. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr
