UNA slams LP supporter’s move to lock out Garcia from office

MANILA, Philippines — The United Nationalist Alliance on Thursday criticized Acting Cebu Governor Agnes Magpale’s move to lock out suspended Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia out of her office but said that they would still hold their proclamation rally in the province.

“We haven’t wavered in our stand, let due process of law take its course, we will still push through with our proclamation rally in Cebu,” UNA secretary general and Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco said.

While Garcia was away at Oslob town, the governor’s office was padlocked following an order from Magpale to take control of the area of the capitol which houses the said office.

Garcia is a member UNA while Magpale is part of the Liberal Party.

What locking out Garcia from her office was proof that UNA was being harassed by the LP in Cebu, Tiangco said.

“We said before that this was politically motivated, something which the LP denied. But then they announced that they would file 16 more cases against her. We have proven then that it was politically motivated,” he said.

He insisted that they were “proven correct again” with the new developments in Garcia’s protest.

“Imagine the governor’s office being padlocked just a few days after we announced that our proclamation rally would be in Cebu? This sends a strong signal,” he pointed out.

UNA announced on Monday that it has chosen to hold its proclamation rally in vote-rich Cebu.

“Tuloy kami, even if we are being harassed, we will push through with our proclamation rally in Cebu,” he said.
