A 21-year-old graduate of the University of San Carlos placed 9th in the December 2012 Nursing Licensure Examination (NLE). The results were released by the Professional Regulations Commission yesterday.
Christina Ligaya Jalandoni Iway from Opao, Mandaue City got an 84.00 rating in the NLE which was topped by Glicyl Arante Alvero of Colegio de Sta. Lourdes of Leyte Foundation Inc. who got a rating of 85.80.
Only 16,908 of the 49,066 examinees passed the examination given by the Board of Nursing.
The examinations were conducted in the cities of Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Dagupan, Davao, Iloilo, Laoag, Legazpi, Lucena, Nueva Ecija, Pagadian, Pampanga, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga.
Iway said her achievement has yet to sink in. She said she was informed by her classmate at 3 p.m. yesterday that she was among the NLE topnotchers.
“I’m happy and proud,” Iway told Cebu Daily News.
Iway, who was on the Dean’s List at USC, said she did not expect to be part of the topnotchers.
Iway said what she aimed was for her to just pass the examination.
Iway said the examination was difficult, but she passed because of her seriousness and hardwork in her studies plus her prayers.
Before the examination, she and her classmates went to different churches to pray.
“Nagtuon lang gyud ko pag-ayo ug nag-ampo ko sa Ginoo”, she said.
Iway is the eldest of three siblings. Her mother, Carmencita, runs a carenderia. Her cousin who is a nurse in New Jersey in the US helped send her to school. Iway’s father died three years ago.
Iway said she plans to work in the country and if given a chance, she will join her cousin abroad. /Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
