Residents of Quezon City flood-prone areas urged to leave
MANILA, Philippines—The Quezon City government on Tuesday urged residents of flood-prone areas, particularly creeks, to leave their homes as heavy rains trigger floods in many areas of Metro Manila.
Elmo San Diego, chief of the Department of Public Order and Safety, said the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was on alert level 1, where voluntary evacuation is in effect.
Families along Gumamela Street in Barangay Roxas District, a low-lying area, were alerted for possible evacuation, he said.
In Barangay Doña Imelda, some 11 families were relocated to the barangay hall to keep them safe from flooding.
Gregorio Banacia, chief of the Public Affairs and Information Service Office, added that seven families were evacuated from Barangay Damayang Lagi.
The families are now staying on the third floor of the Barangay Damayang Lagi hall where a kitchen was set up to provide food for the evacuees.
