Presidential race: Binay is still the man to beat, says Suarez

Vice President Jejomar Binay

MANILA, Philippines — At this time, Vice President Jejomar Binay is still “the man to beat” in the presidential race and Liberal Party presidential bet Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II will have a lot of work ahead of him.

This was according to House minority leader Danilo Suarez who said that “if the presidential election is tomorrow, the Vice President will win as President.”

“I’ve been with him for nine years, from 1998, and Mar has something between his ears in terms of economics (but) it will take hard work,” he said.

LP campaign manager Senator Franklin Drilon has earlier announced that they are fielding Roxas in the 2016 presidential election, pitting him against Binay who plans to run for the highest post in the government under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) coalition.

UNA has earlier expressed confidence in Binay’s ability to win the presidential race due to his constantly high trust ratings.

In a recent press conference, former Senator Ernesto Maceda, an UNA senatorial candidate, spoke of Binay’s strong crowd drawing power whenever he appeared in their campaign rallies.
