Collection of business and real property taxes have increased due to the Mandaue City Treasurer’s Office’s information dissemination campaign.
Regal Oliva, Mandaue City Treasurer, said that the campaign which included visiting establishments to inform them of their taxes and sending demand letters to delinquent establishments had proven effective.
“It would really give us the image that we are very serious with our drive to collect their taxes,” Oliva said while pointing out that there are less than 20 personnel sent all over the city to visit establishments and inform them about their tax dues.
As of January 24 this year, Mandaue’s business tax collection increased by 30 percent or P236 million compared last year of P186 million. While as of December 2012, real property taxes increased by 103 percent or they collected P256 million this year.
DEMAND LETTERS
Oliva said they already sent 3,000 letters to delinquent real property taxpayers and 1,000 demand letters to delinquent business taxpayers.
The deadline for the payment of business tax was on January 20 while for real property tax payments will be on March 31.
Oliva said that after January 20, an interest of 12 percent and another 2 percent in each month will be imposed based from their business taxes. /Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
