Guard shot dead by two men asking directions

A warehouse security guard in the downtown area was shot dead in his post by two suspects who asked him for directions on Sunday.

William Baldado, 26, of DGS security agency was shot in the chest and brought to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was declared dead by attending physicians.

Police investigation revealed Baldado was on duty around 5 p.m. at La Nueva warehouse when two men stopped to ask for directions to the City Plaza.

Baldado told the suspects Ericson Manait, 24, and Juanito Lauza, 24, of Bato, Ermita, he was not familiar of the place. The suspects then got irked.

Manait then pulled a gun and shot the victim. They fled toward the Carbon market area.

The suspects were arrested in a follow-up operation.

PO3 Dario Manatad, homicide investigator, said, “It’s like they were just having a power trip.”

A .357 revolver and bullets were recovered from Manait’s possession.

Manatad said Balbado was unable to return fire since he had no issue firearm from the agency.

A representative from the security agency refused to comment to the police on why Baldado had no issued firearm. chito aragon
