Caloocan warns drivers: No texting while driving

/ 09:52 PM January 27, 2013

Motorists who simply cannot resist the urge to call or text someone on their cell phone while driving in Caloocan City may find themselves behind bars.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri issued the warning Sunday after he observed how residents in the city blatantly disregard an ordinance banning the use of cell phones while behind the wheel. Several accidents have been attributed to the dangerous practice.

In a statement, Echiverri said that violators of the ordinance would be arrested by members  of the city’s Reformed Department of Public Safety and Traffic Management.

He stressed that even motorists who are just passing through the city would not be spared should they be found violating the city ordinance.

Echiverri reminded drivers to observe the prohibition to avoid the inconvenience of being flagged down by their operatives.

Based on records of the Highway Patrol Group, the use of cell  phones while driving was one of the primary causes of traffic accidents along with overtaking, speeding, vehicular mechanical defects and road conditions.
