MANILA, Philippines—Two men, one of whom said he did not want to ruin his children’s future, hanged themselves at noon Tuesday  and early Wednesday inside their homes in Quezon City, police said.

Reports from the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) identified the suicides as 66-year-old widower Reynaldo Sandoval  of Pampanga Street in Barangay (village) Payatas B; and 52-year-old Zeus Victoria  of 19th Avenue, Barangay San Roque in Cubao.

Sandoval was found at noon Tuesday hanging from the balcony of his home with a telephone cord looped around his neck while Victoria hanged himself with a nylon cord tied to a steel bed.

The report from the QCPD-CIDU said that Sandoval had been found by a member of his household, Chona Balingasa, who immediately reported her discovery to the police.

Meanwhile, a suicide note scrawled by Victoria said he was already fulfilled as a father and that he did not want to destroy his children’s lives. He admitted that he had become too much of a drug dependent because illegal drugs kept his pain away.

He later thanked his siblings for taking care of his children for him and asked that his body be brought back to his hometown Gumaca in Quezon province.

PO2 Anthony Tejerero, case investigator, said that Victoria was found around 2 a.m. by his wife, Gracia, who tried to save him by bringing him to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center. But he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Tejerero said that before the elderly man hanged himself, he had been drinking liquor alone at their dining table. It was there that he left his suicide note.
