MANILA, Philippines—Expect the sky to remain gray and gloomy as the northeast monsoon continues to prevail over Luzon and the Visayas, while the tail-end of a cold front is affecting Mindanao, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon, or the cold winds blowing in from Siberia, remained the dominant weather system over Luzon and the Visayas.
Eastern Visayas, the Bicol region, Cagayan Valley and the provinces of Aurora and Quezon will be cloudy with occasional light to moderate rains, while Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will have partly cloudy skies with brief light rains, according to Pagasa’s weather outlook.
On the other hand, the tail-end of a cold front is affecting Mindanao.
The Davao region and Central Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain showers and thunderstorms that may trigger flash floods and landslides, Pagasa said. The rest of Mindanao will have light to moderate rain showers or thunderstorms, it said.
The weather bureau said the effects of the inter-tropical convergence zone over Mindanao had weakened, although the tail-end of the cold front remained.
The weather system is expected to bring moderate to heavy rains over the regions of Davao and Soccsksargen, which includes South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City, Pagasa said.
Residents in these areas are advised to take all the necessary precautionary measures, the weather bureau said.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail throughout the archipelago and coastal waters will be moderate to rough, Pagasa said.
