WESTERN Visayas (WV) and NCR-South came out of the gates and announced their intentions for the title in a big way as they downed their respective opponents at the start of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Tournament-of-Champions at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, yesterday.
WV leaned on the great play of Princess Robles and Bernadeth Pons, who combined for 12 hits, to take care of Northern Luzon, 25-10, 25-5, in Pool B while NCR-South bucked a first set loss to beat Central Luzon, 21-25, 25-20, 25-17, over in Pool A.
Caryl Sandoval of Angelicum College blasted six hits and came away with four blocks while Melanie Torres added five kills to help NCR-South complete the comeback.
Southwestern University (SWU), representing Central Visayas, was still playing Victoria, the league’s guest squad from Australia, as of this writing. SWU continues its campaign in this tournament with a match against Eastern Visayas today.
Six games are on tap today including Southern Luzon taking on Mindanao and NCR-South.
