THE USC Cebuano Studies Center, in cooperation with the St. Catherine School of Carcar and the Carcar city government, will conduct the first of the Carcar lecture series on Jan. 26, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at St. Catherine School.
The Carcar lecture series is an outreach program of the Cebuano Studies Center geared towards raising the community’s awareness and appreciation of their cultural and literary heritage.
The project spearheaded by Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu, director of the Cebuano Studies Center of the University of San Carlos, will run for six months with each month featuring two or three writers of Carcar.
This month, Sam Harold Kho Nervez will deliver a talk on the legendary Marcel Navarra and his literary legacy, while Cindy Velasquez will present on the incomparable Maria Kabigon and her contributions to Cebuano literature.
Slated in February are presentations on Sinforosa Alcordo by Sonrisa Samson and on Jovito Abellana by Althea Capacio.
In March, Fely Latras will present Epifanio Alfafara and his works to the public and Kyle Matthew Santelices will discuss Diosdado Alesna and his literary legacy.
For April, Haidee Emmie Palapar will showcase the works of Brigido Alfar, while Raphael Dean Polinar will focus on Galileo Varga.
In May, Chester Miparanum will talk on Vicente Alcover, while Bejay Villaflores will speak on Vicente Alcoseba.
Trizer Dale Mansueto will do the June presentation on Bonifacio Deiparine and Genesis Bedio on Mario Florido.
The literary series will be capped by presentations in July on Jose Galicano by Frances Mae Serenio and Filomeno Dayanan by Hope Sabanpan-Yu.
The lecture series is free and open to the public.
