MANILA, Philippines–Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo on Monday said that he has ordered for the injured police officers as well as the family of the lone casualty of the Agusan del Sur attack to receive assistance.
Bacalzo said that he has directed Caraga regional police director Chief Superintendent Reynaldo Rafal to ensure that medical and financial assistance reaches the wounded personnel and the kin of the casualty of the New People’s Army (NPA) attack on the police station of Trento last Saturday.
The PNP chief added that he instructed the Director for Integrated Police Operations in Eastern Mindanao to mount a regionwide pursuit operation against the NPA rebels.
The rebel group left behind two of its members who have been “given medical attention while in custody of security forces,” according to Bacalzo.
Chief Inspector Charity Galvez, who heads Trento police, and her men fought some 250 NPA members for more than an hour.
The rebels stormed the police station onboard three hijacked trucks, said Bacalzo.
Police Officer 1 Joel Lazarte and Police Officer 3 Mhel Hubo were hurt while the police station’s utility worker Salvador Rall Jr. was killed during the attack.
“Their heroism will continue to be source of pride for the 140,000 strong PNP where heroes are born each day. These police heroes truly immortalized the undying battlecry: always outnumbered but never outfought,” said the PNP chief.
