MAN WANTED FOR SISTER’S DEATH FALLS
A MAN accused of killing his sister and injured another woman was arrested in barangay Pasil, Cebu City.
Jorge Vistal, 40, had been in hiding after allegedly committing the crime last year in Sampaloc, Manila.
The man returned to Cebu on Thursday. A tip that the man had arrived home sent police rushing to his residence in sitio Lawis.
Police said Vistal tried to resist but he was overpowered by operatives of the Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Recovered from the suspect was a .22 caliber revolver loaded with four bullets, police said. The CCPO is coordinating with the Manila Police District for the transfer of Vistal.
Vistal said he was drunk when the attack happened.
Vistal said he suspected his sister Efrenita and her mother-in-law Marifel Lopeno were spreading rumors about him.
The man said he saw the two women talking when he arrived home. Thinking that the two women were talking behind his back, he took an icepick and stabbed the victims./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
TRUCK RUNS OVER MAN
A 29-YEAR-OLD man died after he was run over by a truck in barangay Alang-Alang, Mandaue City.
Gregorio Catubig was driving a motorcycle when the accident occurred in U. N. Avenue around 7 p.m. Friday.
Police said Catubig tried to overtake an Isuzu truck from the right side but lost control of the motorcycle.
Police said the motorcycle hit the truck causing it to crash. Catubig was hit by the truck after he was thrown off the motorcycle.
The driver of the truck, Lope Ugnay, 51, surrendered to the police after the incident./REPORTER JUCELL MARIE P. CUYOS
