Dewfoam overcomes 21-point deficit

DEWFOAM ’88 registered the upset of the season so far as it came back from a 21-point deficit to down the Shell ‘80s, 72-64 in the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association’s 12th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup Thursday night at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Early on, it appeared as if Shell would cruise to another easy win as it led by a huge margin, 33-12, in the second canto. But Dewfoam was unperturbed in the face of such huge odds as it scored 15 straight points to come within six, 27-33.

Class ‘80s was in front for the final time at 55-54 before Class ’88 surged ahead with a 10-0 run that gave it a 64-55 lead. Shell last threatened at 64-68 but Dewfoam showed nerves of steel in scoring the game’s final four points to snatch the win.

Ricky Yu had a fantastic all-around game with 14 points, 19 rebounds and eight assists but it as Erwin Yu who carried the scoring load with 21 points, six steals, four boards and three dimes. Robert Lim followed suit with 16 points, three assists and three rebounds.

Stephen Tan paced Class ’80s with 13 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists as Chester Cokaliong was held off to only a dozen points after scoring 27 in their season-opening 96-64 demolition over 3R Audio ’98.

In the other game, Rodney Lindimar Co had 13 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists and Kevin Mamac added 12 points and two steals as Best World Lifestyle 2004 upended Young Builders ’91, 66-61. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
