MANILA, Philippines—There is no let up for Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson even after his foe, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, suffered a mild stroke Wednesday.
“Why ceasefire? There is no battle, but simply setting right what is wrong,” Lacson said in a text message when sought to comment if he would declare a ceasefire given Santiago’s condition.
Asked how he feels that Santiago’s condition seemed to have worsened after he called her a “crusading crook,” Lacson said, “The better question is, how did she feel when she was lambasting the Senate, putting all the senators in bad light?”
Santiago has been advised by her doctors to “disengage from politics” after allegedly suffering from a mild stroke Wednesday.
In a statement issued by her office Thursday, Santiago’s doctors even warned the senator of a second stroke because of her word war against Lacson and Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile over the alleged abuse of Senate funds.
Santiago’s cardiologist, former Health Secretary Esperanza CAbral, was even quoted in the statement telling the feisty senator that “Her political enemies might be dancing on her grave if she continues to fight them single-handedly.”
Reacting to Cabral’s statement, Lacson said: “Nobody in his right mind will dance on somebody else’s grave even if the person under the ground dug her own grave.”
