Siloys fall short vs MCBA

THE FIRST TIME, they got railroaded. But yesterday, Cebu Daily News (CDN) Siloys came out swinging only to fall several shots short of a victory as the Mabolo Community Basketball Association (MCBA) held on for an 75-69 victory in their second exhibition match held at the Mabolo Sports Center.

The Siloys jumped the gun early, scoring on medium range and three-point baskets by Jonas Panerio, who spearheaded the charge with a game-high 38 points.

The Siloys, who sported more players in its lineup, managed to keep pace with the MCBA squad and even led at the half, 45-40.

Unlike in the first meeting where a full MCBA lineup easily subdued the Siloys and turned the match into a lopsided affair, yesterday’s game saw the CDN team running the floor better and pressuring the MCBA scorers to rush shots.

But the MCBA veterans, behind Elmer Guttierez’s 14 points, managed to work their way through in the third quarter to lead 55-50, only to be slowed down by the Siloys’ stingy defense and better ball distribution.

A series of costly turnovers in the homestretch resulted in fastbreak conversions for the MCBA squad, whose entire lineup netted at least one basket.  Paolo Migallos of MCBA added 13 points, mostly on short range jumpers and fastbreaks. /Senior Copy Editor Stephen Capillas
