Miner hacked to death in Agusan del Sur

MANILA, Philippines — A miner was killed after he was allegedly hacked by his worker in a mining site in Agusan del Sur Wednesday, police said Thursday.

Superintendent Martin Gamba, Caraga police spokesman, identified the victim as Avelin Gambong, 47, who was killed in Barangay (village) Dasagan in San Francisco, around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

He said Gambong and suspect Romeo Polensio Sr. were just having a conversation that turned into a heated argument, prompting Polensio to hack his boss in different parts of his body with a bolo (jungle knife).

It was not known what they had argued about.

Polensio managed to escape after the incident, while Gambong was declared dead on arrival at the D.O Plaza Memorial Hospital in Patin-ay Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
