Maker of fake documents nabbed

AGENTS of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) on Monday arrested the owner of an Internet cafe in downtown Cebu City for allegedly manufacturing fake documents.

Ray Vincent Rosas, 40, was arrested after he issued a fake Official Receipt (O.R.) and Certificate of Registration (C.R.) to NBI-7 Agent Bernard dela Cruz who posed as a customer.

The NBI-7 also recovered from Rosas’ possession fake diplomas, transcript of records, bank certificates, and a computer set which Rosas allegedly used in fabricating official documents.

A complaint for falsification of public documents will be filed against Rosas before the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.

Dela Cruz said they received a request from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) regarding the proliferation of fake accountable forms like the OR and CR.

He said they got an information that the fake OR and CR were manufactured in Rosas’ shop in Sanciangko Street, Cebu City.

Dela Cruz requested Rosas to provide him a fake OR and CR in exchange for P1,000.

“It took two to three hours for him to make the fake documents,” Dela Cruz told reporters.

Aside from the fabricated documents, Rosas had several original Tax Identification Numbers of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

“How did he get these TIN numbers? He may have a connection inside the BIR,” he said.

Dela Cruz advised the public to verify the authenticity of their OR and CR before the LTO.

Rosas declined to comment on the allegations./REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
