‘Pablo’ victims block ComVal road to air disgust over poor relief services

MONTEVISTA, Compostela Valley—A major road going to a typhoon-devastated area was rendered impassable after more than 6,000 residents from different towns affected by Typhoon “Pablo” in early December set up a barricade here Tuesday morning.

Datu Matunaw, a Matigsalog tribal leader, said the barricade was intended to signify their disgust over the “selective and poor” relief services from the government.

Matunaw asserted that the devastation was due to the massive degradation of the forests in the region. “We are also calling for a total ban on foreign and large-scale logging and mining operations in the country,” Matunaw said.
