Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. yesterday said the Office of the President is already barred from imposing administrative suspensions against elective officials.
The prohibition, however, does not benefit Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia who was suspended administratively by the Office of the President last December.
Brillantes said the prohibition is provided under election laws.
However, he clarified that the Office of the Ombudsman is not covered by that prohibition.
Any suspensions for criminal offenses filed with the Ombudsman may still be imposed.
