Panthers tame Jaguars to secure second place

The University of Southern Philippines (USPF) took over the second spot in the Men’s Under 23 after blanking University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), 2-0, in yesterday’s action of the 15th Aboitiz Football Cup at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

The win allowed the Panthers to replace the Jaguars and relegate the latter to the third spot.

USPF now totes seven points, the same with category leader University of San Carlos (USC). But the Warriors lead the Panthers with a goal difference of four points. The Panthers have three points.

In the Boys 17, Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) continues to reign in supreme in Bracket C after stretching its winning streak to three with a 2-0 blanking of South Hills.

South Hills, which has yet to post a win in the tournament, dropped to the cellar.

In the Boys 14, Subangdaku routed USC BED, 5-0, while Canduman and Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) A ended their match in a scoreless draw.

In the Boys 12, Guiseppe FC, Canduman FC, SRP FC and St. Joseph School (SJS)-Mandaue all successfully hurdled past their opponents.

Guiseppe FC streaked past Dinamo, 3-1, Canduman edged Hijas de Jesus, 2-1, SRP FC annihilated Holy Infant, 10-0, and SJS-M blanked VEPS, 2-0.

In the Players 10, Canduman exacted a 1-0 edging of Warzhockz, Dinamo outsmarted VEPS, 4-2, USC BED routed AdC A, 4-0, and Subangdaku FC achieved a 2-0 blanking of San Roque Football Club (SRFC).

Forfeits were the order of the day in the Players 8 category with VEPS and Consolacion benefiting from the no-shows.

VEPS enjoyed a no-sweat 2-0 win over Centre of International Education (CIE) and Consolacion also did not have to work hard for its 2-0 win over SRFC-B.

The last match in the category was won by Hijas de Jesus against Children’s Paradise Montessori School (CPMS), 3-1.
