MANILA, Philippines—Storm signals were lifted except in Catanduanes before noon Saturday as tropical depression Bising moved north northwest, the state weather bureau said.
The cyclone has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, and moving at 17 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
Catanduanes remained under Signal No.1 after storm signals were lifted Friday night in the provinces of Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern, Western and Eastern Samar.
Bising was last spotted 215 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes.
Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under Signal No. 1 were alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Moderate to heavy rains (5 to15 mm per hour) were forecast within Bising’s 300 km-diameter.
Fishing boats and other small seacraft were advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas due to “Bising” and the northeast monsoon, Pagasa said.
Bising was forecast to be 530 km east of Tuguegarao City by Sunday morning; 720 km east of Basco, Batanes by Monday morning; and 1,040 km northeast of Basco, Batanes by Tuesday morning.
