FERNANDO ‘Trigger’ Lumacad (27W-5L-3D, 12 KOs) of the Philippines will face Mexican Felipe ‘Gallito’ Orocuta (26W -1L, 22 KOs) in a 10 round fight in Mexicali, Mexico on Jan. 26.
Lumacad won the WBC Asia Council continental title in 2011 by stopping Ricky Sabia in two rounds in a fight held in Gen. Santos City. He also scored a unanimous decision win in Las Vegas against Joseph Rios last November 2011 on the undercard of Pacquiao-Marquez 3.
Lumacad suffered a third round knockout loss at the hands of Jorge Arce in 2009. But this fight enabled him to get more overseas bouts. He has lost on points thrice in Mexico against Juan Jose Montes (L UD 10 Nov. 2009), Hernan Marquez (L MD 12 July 2012) and in his last fight, a unanimous decision loss to Carlos Cuadras for the WBC Silver super flyweight title last November.
“This is an important bout for Lumacad if he wants to continue fighting against world class opponents.” informed Jim Claude Manangquil, who manages Lumacad.
The 26 year old Lumacad hails from Gen. Santos City and has fought twice in Cebu. In 2008, he had a split draw against Thai Suriyan Sor Rungvisai in Naga in a WBO interim Oriental title bout and in 2009 he beat Nino Suelo by unanimous decision at the Cebu Coliseum.
The 27 year old Orocuta beat former WBO flyweight champion Julio Cesar Miranda by 10th round TKO last September. His only loss was against his countryman, undefeated prospect Daniel Rosas, in 2010 by unanimous decision. /correspondent Rene Bonsubre Jr.
