Aquino yet to name new military chief
MANILA, Philippines—President Benigno Aquino III has yet to name a replacement for retiring Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Jessie Dellosa.
Dellosa will step down on January 17, three days before he reaches the military’s mandatory retirement age of 56, AFP spokesman Colonel Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said Friday.
Dellosa, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1979, served the 125,000-strong military since December 2011.
Among the top contenders for the military chief post include: Army chief Lieutenant General Emmanuel Bautista, Air Force chief Lieutenant General Catalino dela Cruz, AFP Vice Chief Lieutenant General Noel Coballes and Southern Luzon Command chief Major General Alan Luga.
