THE SAN MIGUEL Beermen look to flaunt their retooled squad when they open the new season of the ASEAN Basketball League with a championship rematch against the reigning titlists Indonesia Warriors today at the Mahaka Square in Indonesia.
With 10 new players in their fold including two former PBA MVPs, the expectations are great for the Beermen, who are looking for redemption after flaming out in the finals last year against these very same Warriors.
With the Philippine Patriots no longer in the league, the country’s gaze will be fixated upon San Miguel and their huge frontline bannered by Asi Taulava and Eric Menk along with reinforcements Brian Williams and Gabe Freeman.
New head coach Leo Austria also has several other weapons in his arsenal which includes last year’s league MVP Leo Avenido and Chris Banchero, who will be flanked by former PBA players Val Acuna, Hans Thiele, Paolo Hubalde, Christian Luanzon, RJ Rizada, Mike Burtscher, Axel Doruelo and JR Cawaling./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
